Seminar Overview

This session will explore the practical corporate issues faced by monitoring officers, will highlight some core attributes of effective monitoring officers and suggest some do’s and don’ts of working with council members.

It is suitable for MOs, deputy MOs and those aspiring to be MOs. It will cover some of the same ground as the practical workshop session will cover in more detail (through case studies) in the afternoon. Delegates can attend just one of the sessions or can cover both in one day (subject to availability of places in the afternoon).

• Core statutory monitoring officer requirements • Who should be a monitoring officer – particular challenges for non-legally qualified MOs and MOs in shared services arrangements • Key attributes of an effective monitoring officer • Do’s and Don’ts of working with council members • Effective functioning in a changing local authority landscape
