Suitable audience:
The sessions will be suitable for all members and would be most suitable for those involved in the recruitment and retention of employees, senior strategy makers and legal teams. The sessions will also be suitable for front line local authority teams who support children in care, or any members with an interest in immigration related issues and precarious status. We anticipate that HR teams from all organisations would benefit from attending.
Overview and topics to be covered include:
Session 1 – Sponsoring overseas nationals – navigating the Tier 2 visa system
This session will investigate the Tier 2 process for recruiting and retaining overseas nationals. This session is particularly topical as recruitment from the European Union is becoming more challenging with Brexodus in full swing and employers considering Tier 2 as a viable alternative. Emma Brooksbank from Freeths LLP and Helen Taylor from Browne Jacobson will talk you through the Tier 2 system; from securing and maintaining a Tier 2 licence to securing a visa for a potential new employee. They will identify some of the challenges faced by Tier 2 employers and will pose strategy solutions for these.
You will then be invited to become decision makers for a Tier 2 licence holder and navigate the process yourself, delving into immigration law as you go.
Session 2 – Brexit update for employers – employing European nationals pre and post Brexit
We will bring you right up to date with the current position for European nationals residing and working in the UK, pre and post Brexit. Tom Bradford of Freeths LLP and Ros Foster of Browne Jacobson will unravel the Withdrawal Agreement and government policy announcements to give you an insight into the new immigration system for EU nationals. They will particularly focus on European workers and will identify the issues that employers need to be alert to at this stage.
In this session you will be asked to consider a number of scenarios for European employees and will need to identify the right immigration routes. To keep you on your toes, we will also run a round of Brexit Bingo; dabbers at the ready.
