Professor Stephen Bailey, Professor of Public Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Nottingham.

Stephen Bailey is the Editor of  Cross on Local Government Law and the Encyclopedia of Local Government Law.  He read law at Queens’ College, Cambridge, taking the B.A. and LL.B degrees. In 1972 he joined the (then) Department of Law at the University of Nottingham. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1985 and Professor of Public Law in 1989. He was successively, Head of the Department of Law (1992-94), Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (1994-98) and a Pro Vice-Chancellor (1998-2004). From 1 December 2007, he has been Head of the School of Law. He is a non-executive director of Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Lincoln.

Stephen Bailey has taught and published over a wide range of subjects, including administrative law, civil liberties law, local government law, the English legal system and tort.
