Legal Research Refresher


7 December 2016, 9.30am registration (9.45am start) – 1.00pm (followed by lunch) Freeths Nottingham, (with Video Conferencing Equipment to Freeths offices in Leicester, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield)

Please note we offer the option to attend this course via video conference at another of our offices to make it accessible to as many EM Lawshare members as possible.  We do our best to deliver the best experience we can with the technology we have, but inevitably it may not be as effective as attending the course in person.  We always appreciate your feedback and make improvements if we can.

B1 Legal Research

  1. Obtaining relevant information through effective use of questioning and active listening
  2. Finding, analysing and assessing documents to extract relevant information
  3. Recognising when additional information is needed
  4. Interpreting and evaluating information obtained

B2 Legal research

  1. Using appropriate methods and resources to undertake the research
  2. Identifying , finding and assessing the relevance of sources of law

Presenter profiles

Vivian Grange has worked at Freeths for over 12 years.  During that time she has brought the Library into the 21st century. She is responsible for the management of the firm’s legal information, both on-line and hard copy resources.  She undertakes training and inductions for all staff on all databases and deals with many and varied legal and business research enquiries.

Mandy Webster at Browne Jacobson is a chartered librarian with over 20 years’ experience in researching legal information for both internal and external clients on a daily basis to tight deadlines. Her first degree is in law and her Masters in library and information studies. Mandy researches legal and business issues using a wide variety of proprietary and free databases. Mandy also provides training and support on using these databases to fee earners within the firm and to selected clients.
