Course overview

Suitable audience:

In house solicitors involved in public law decision making and judicial review challenges.


The course is designed to provide a reminder of the basic judicial review principles and apply these principles to specific areas of practice, which EM Lawshare members have identified as current hot topics for public bodies. In addition, the course will provide both a general and specific update on law and procedure in the Administrative Court.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Consultation
  • Equalities and Human Rights
  • Case Law and Rule Changes update

Interactive elements

The course will likely include case studies and a discussion forum.

Duration: Half a day (3 Training hours) including lunch

Presenter profiles:

Jonathan is a Partner in Geldard’s Dispute Resolution team, having joined the firm in 1989. He handles a broad cross-section of public sector litigation, particularly procurement disputes and judicial reviews covering planning, procurement and other public law issues.  He also has experience of advising on and participating in Public Inquiries and on claims for compensation in the Upper Tier (Lands Chamber).  He is described in the Legal 500 as “a public sector specialist”.

Jonathan has experience of representing clients at mediation and on other forms of alternative dispute resolution such as Early Neutral Evaluation. He was formerly a member of the Amateur Swimming Association’s Independent Disciplinary and Dispute resolution Judicial Panel. 

Virginia Cooper is a Partner at Bevan Brittan in the Commercial Dispute Resolution Department in London with particular focus on the local government sector. Virginia acts for a large number of public bodies including local authorities, regulators, NHS Trusts and ombudsmen in resolving complex commercial, regulatory and public law disputes. She specialises in collective actions for large groups of clients advising on all aspects of litigation including mediations, High Court proceedings and judicial reviews.

Amy Tschobotko is an Associate at Bevan Brittan in the Commercial Dispute Resolution Department in London. Amy acts for a wide range of public bodies and provides regulatory and public law advice, particularly in the context of Judicial Review proceedings.
