Course overview

This update will cover the topical issue in Information Governance

Session 1 will be an overview of the GDPR and the Data Protection Bill and their implications for local authorities looking specifically at the key changes the GDPR will bring, data processing and data sharing agreements, data retention and data security and breach notification

Session 2 will switch the focus to Freedom of Information, providing a general update on recent relevant decisions by the ICO and the Tribunal

Presenter profiles:

Helen Snow is experienced in dealing with data protection and information law matters. She provides expert advice on Data Protection & the GDPR, Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR)

Helen regularly advises clients on DPA compliance, specifically responding to Subject Access Requests and the application of exemptions the disclosure of information and preparing and reviewing Data Protection Policies. In the context of FOI and EIR she has prepared qualified persons opinions and undertaken public interests test, advised on the application of exemptions/exceptions under the relevant provisions and has also prepared and reviewed FOI and EIR policies

Lowri Phillips has significant experience of advising public and private sector clients on data protection & GDPR (DPA), Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information (EIR) issues. She advises organisations on their legal obligations and provides practical assistance in responding to requests made under the legislation

Her FOI/EIR expertise includes regularly advising on the use of exemptions, assisting clients in drafting qualified persons opinions and public interest test outcomes. She is also experienced at dealing with appeals to the Information Commissioner’s Office

Lowri also regularly advises clients on DPA compliance and has delivered many bespoke training packages for clients on DPA & GDPR, FOI and EIR
