Course overview

This course will cover in an interactive manner (through two workshop sessions), Council decision-taking and the procedures to be observed when convening and holding Council meetings. We will also cover senior officer disciplinary issues and provide a governance case-law update.

Suitable audience:

All lawyers involved in the governance of the Councils, members of Democratic Services teams and senior managers throughout Councils

Presenter profiles:

Ben Standing – Ben specialises in public, planning and environmental law for public and corporate sector bodies. Experienced in judicial review, planning, public sector pensions and contaminated land.

Richard Barlow – Richard is head of our public sector practice, advising many public bodies on governance, judicial review and vires issues.

Sarah Hooton – specialises in employment law and advises local authorities and other public bodies on all aspects of employment law. Sarah has significant experience of advising in relation to local authority senior officer disciplinary action.

Jonathan Allen – Jon is a specialist in our planning, environment and administrative law team. Jon has substantial experience of advising local authorities on vires and judicial review issues.
